In 1997, the family of Marcella and the late Thomas Schmidt transformed their five-generation farm into a golf course, fulfilling Thomas’ dream of building a course where people could enjoy the beautiful views of Lake Pepin. His dream became a reality when the first nine opened, and again in 2001 with the nine holes added to complete the Championship design.

Perched on a bluff overlooking Lake Pepin, ten minutes south of Lake City, the course was designed by Dr. Gordon Emerson and Midwest Golf Management, and the Schmidt family was directly involved in all aspects of the development of the course and construction of the clubhouse. Each of the 18 holes deliver spectacular panoramic views. Twelve holes provide views of the lake, and the remainder showcase the surrounding bluffs and valleys. Nestled between the 17th green and 18th tee is a two-story, stone-house built in 1869 by great great grandfather  Joe (Snowball) Schmidt.

"We decided that we didn't want to just start carving up this beautiful land so rich in character and history to create something that didn't fit. We felt that changing it dramatically to fit [our vision] would be wrong, and made every effort to maintain the integrity of the land, which has been shaped mainly by nature and time."    - Schmidt Family
